Vietnamese lacquerware is a traditional art that has been passed down from generation to generation in craft villages throughout Vietnam. Vietnam's lacquerware is known for its durability and beauty. When done by hand, it can take as many as 12 different stages of coating and drying of this natural varnish, thus taking at least 15 days to complete one piece. Today, lacquer artists are discovering new materials to create new colors and modern designs, making lacquer more and more popular in contemporary homes from decorative furniture to everyday use.
